In Baltimore, nurseries are busiest on spring weekends, when new stock arrives and popular plants sell out; weekday mornings are calmer and staff have time to answer questions. Ask which plants are hardy for your USDA zone in Maryland, whether trees and shrubs carry a replacement guarantee (one year is common), and whether the nursery delivers and plants large items. Fall is the best planting season for many trees and perennials, and end-of-season sales are common. Check the listing for hours, seasonal closures and Google rating before you go.

Baltimore is in Maryland, in the Northeast, where four distinct seasons shape local life: hot humid summers, snowy winters that can close businesses for a day, and a dense pattern of towns where walking, transit and street parking all matter. Getting around Baltimore is easiest by car; street parking is metered in busy downtown areas, and most suburban businesses have their own lot. Ride-share apps such as Uber and Lyft operate across Maryland's larger cities, and public transit varies from extensive to minimal.

Our first time at Green Fields Nursery was fantastic! From the moment we walked in, we were treated to incredibly personalized help. The knowledgeable staff took the time to understand our project and recommended the perfect plants, truly showing they care about their customers' success. Before and after pictures added. We loved the roses, the Sky Pencil Japanese Holly, the beautiful hanging Fucsias and all the herbs. You are now our nursery! Gracias, Peter and your wonderful staff".

This nursery had a wide variety of indoor and outdoor plants. I wanted tomato seedlings and they had so many different kinds! I purchased 3 different tomato plants, and 2 herbs. Also, very nice service. The people working there are personable and very helpful. As a first time Gardner, the advice given was very valuable and extremely helpful. They weren't condescending or snippy (like big box stores) and answered all of my questions graciously. I was met in the parking lot with my heavy purchase and they put it directly in my car. I will definitely shop there for my future gardening needs.

Explore Baltimore - Green Fields Nursery & Landscaping Green Fields Nursery was founded in 1923 as a small-scale grower of unique plants in Mount Washington. Its founder, August Dubbert, shared his horticultural expertise with neighbors and friends, specializing in rare and unusual plants. He helped popularize Aucuba japonica 'Variegata'—a plant once thought to be not hardy in the area. In the early 1940s, the nursery relocated to the corner of Falls Road and Northern Parkway. It was later passed down to his knowledgeable son, Louis Dubbert. Under Lou’s guidance, Green Fields continued to thrive and expanded into a successful residential and commercial landscaping business. Lou was especially known for his work in growing and hybridizing daylilies for sale at the nursery. In 1986, Green Fields was purchased by Jim McElroy and his father-in-law, Jerry Dobbyn—marking the beginning of a period of immense growth and transformation. General Manager Peter Bieneman joined in 1988, bringing deep botanical knowledge and enthusiasm that quickly made an impact. In 2001, he earned a Masters of Landscape Architecture. In 2002, Nursery Manager and Designer John Russell joined the team, overse

We visited Green Fields Nursery today to buy some indoor plants, specifically oxygen‑producing plants and succulents. The selection was excellent we found everything we wanted, including a snake plant, spider plant, pothos, hens and chicks, and calibrachoa. The plants were healthy, well cared for, and priced very reasonably for their quality. We also picked up garden soil potting mix for indoor plants, which was exactly what we needed. The staff were helpful, and the overall shopping experience was great. We’re really happy with our purchase and will definitely visit again soon for more plants! 🌿
